The Idiot’s Guide to Blogging has an excellent post on why writing a guest article is a good thing. So, my suggestion — if you’re hedging — is to head over there and check that out. I’ll paraphrase:

• You can drive content-based links back to your own blog/website
• You establish credibility in the blogosphere
• You can connect with a new audience
