Censorship and Restriction in an Internet Age

The folks at DailyBits.com have published a very well written article outlining the top 10 countries censoring the web. I knew that censorship overseas was occurring, but what concerns me is the restriction of progress.
For example is this extreme from North Korea
Basically there is no Internet in North Korea. No servers. No service providers. Nothing. Zip.
The government of Iran has an internet, but read what they censor:
All non-Islamic websites, making Iran probably the country with the most extensive web censorship in the world.
And my least favorite. An example from the country of Cuba explaining why technology has slow worldwide adoption rates:
The sales of personal computers used to be illegal on the country until some months ago for example.
It was a very eye-opening article for me and an inoculation against taking the Internet for granted. I’m interested to hear your reaction to how the countries are stifling technological innovation (leave comments about article at dailybits.com).
